Emerging Infectious Diseases: H1N1 (Swine Flu), MRSA, Hepatitis and life threatening head and neck infections ~ what every healthcare professional should know.
There is no simple definition of an emerging infectious disease. In general, it can be a completely new disease or an old disease occurring in new places and new forms. Various animal diseases are transmitted to us and in such form that we can transfer them to the rest of the public. There are many recent and historical examples of emerging infectious diseases and many lessons to learn from the past. We will explore the pandemic H1N1 Flu that historically is to peak in the fall. We will discuss personal risk to healthcare professionals, their staff and of course to patients. We will review the risk, avoidance techniques and discuss issues of staff shortage in the event of a major outbreak. Is your staff ready and trained to recognize the signs of H1N1 Flu? What would you do if 50% if your staff was ill and could not work for two to three months?
This course is designed to provide dentists, dental hygienists, physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers with information on various aspects of head & neck infections with emphasis on the clinical recognition of disease, diagnostic procedures, current therapeutic modalities and management of treatment complications.
