Athletes can now breathe easier with a new breakthrough
procedure, according to the researchers and surgeons at the
Center For Corrective Surgery in Bala Cynwyd, PA

PHILADELPHIA, Jan. 25, 1999 - In the past, athletes have used steroids, nasal bandages and major surgery to improve their performance. Now there’s a new and simple solution to increase stamina and performance. Recently, laser and radiofrequency have been the most effective treatments for those suffering from snoring, sleep apnea, and chronic nasal congestion. "A coincidental finding was that the laser and radiofrequency treatments for snoring are also benefiting athletes," according to the researchers and surgeons at the Center for Corrective Jaw Surgery.

When athletes have difficulty breathing during a game, their performance is significantly reduced. Airflow through their nose and mouth could be obstructed due to enlarged tissues in the back of the throat and in the nose. Both laser and radiofrequency treatments are procedures that could change the future of professional athletes, helping them to breathe easier, perform better and ultimately score higher without getting short of breath.

Using laser, this technique eliminates excessive tissues in the soft palate, uvula and tonsillar areas that cause obstruction of the airway passages. This fifteen-minute office procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia and results in a fast recovery allowing immediate return to work.

With radiofrequency, heat is applied to specific areas inside the nose (turbinates) causing the enlarged tissues to shrink without any burning or cutting. According to Dr. Mansoor Madani, Director of the Center For Corrective Jaw Surgery and associate professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA, "The new procedure is minimally-invasive, simple and painless." Athletes who had the RF treatment done were able to return to work immediately after the procedure without any major discomfort or down time.

Athletes treated with these simple office procedures have reported improved sleeping and enhanced breathing, which results in higher achievement and better performance throughout the day. It is predicted that a large number of professional athletes will benefit from these revolutionary techniques. To date, Dr. Madani has treated over 2,500 patients who suffered from snoring and chronic nasal congestion using laser and Radiofrequency procedures.
