Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Jon Runyan reports he can breathe better and sleep better thanks to a revolutionary new laser and radiofrequency procedure.

Philadelphia/Bala Cynwyd, PA – On February 8, 2001, Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Jon Runyan underwent a new technique to treat his obstructed upper airway.  Using laser and radiofrequency, this procedure eliminates excessive tissues in the soft palate, uvula, tonsils and nasal passages that cause airway obstruction.  This fifteen-minute office procedure can be performed under local or general anesthesia and results in a fast recovery allowing immediate return to work.

When athletes have difficulty breathing during a game, their performance is significantly reduced.  Runyan’s airflow through his nose and mouth was obstructed due to enlarged tissues in the back of his throat and nose.  Both laser and radiofrequency treatments are procedures that could change the future of professional athletes, helping them to breathe easier, perform better and ultimately score higher without getting short of breath.

In the past, athletes have used steroids, nasal bandages and major surgery to improve their performance.  Now this new and simple solution will increase stamina and performance while treating upper airway obstruction. Recently, laser and radiofrequency have been the most effective treatments for those suffering from snoring, sleep apnea, and chronic nasal congestion.   “A coincidental finding was that the laser and radiofrequency treatments for snoring are also benefiting athletes,” according to the researchers and surgeons at the Center for Corrective Jaw Surgery.

Athletes treated with these simple office procedures have reported decreased snoring levels, improved sleeping, and enhanced breathing, which results in higher achievement and better performance throughout the day.  It is predicted that a large number of professional athletes will benefit from these revolutionary techniques.  To date, Dr. Madani has treated over 4,500 patients who suffered from snoring and chronic nasal congestion using laser and radiofrequency procedures.

“Our goal is to make people aware that snoring is no laughing matter.  Treatments are easy and fairly simple, ranging from the traditional CPAP to more modern laser and radiowave technology which, in most cases, can be done in the doctor’s office.” According to Dr. Madani, who is also an associate professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at Temple University in Philadelphia, “People who snore must be aware that although it doesn’t seem to bother them, because they are sleeping when these problems happen, snoring can strike the life out of them,” adds Madani.

As for Runyan’s wife, Loretta, she’s thrilled to see Jon with such energy in the morning and throughout the day.  “And a more quiet Jon means more sleep for the both of us”, adds Loretta.  For more information, visit www.snorenet.com.
