CHILD ABUSE RECOGNITION MANDATED REPORTER TRAINING (2 CE)

ll health-related licensees applying for the renewal of a license issued by the Department of State Board shall be required to complete at least 2 HOURS of Board-approved continuing education in child abuse recognition and reporting (Act 31).

Child abuse or maltreatment consists of all forms of physical, emotional, sexual abuse, including neglect and exploitation. As dental and medical professionals, we have a responsibility to report any indicators or signs of child abuse. In order to properly comply with the legal mandate for all health professionals to report suspected cases of child maltreatment, healthcare professionals must be aware of their responsibilities. The importance of an early recognition is crucial to effective intervention.  All members of the healthcare team have a unique opportunity and legal obligation to assist in identifying and reporting child abuse. This course will fulfill the 2 hour training requirement to renew your dental license as well as all other Pennsylvania State Board health related licensees.

Course Goals and Learning Objectives:

  • Understand the role, rights, and responsibilities of mandated & permissive reporters
  • Identify the infrastructure for protecting children from abuse
  • Recognize potential signs of abuse or neglect
  • Determine when, how and where to report suspected child abuse
  • Understand the important facts & guidelines as it relates to the welfare of children in cases of abuse
  • Identify the expanded legal definition of child abuse based on Pennsylvania’s Child Protective Services Law

This child abuse course is a requirement EVERY TWO YEARS in order to renew your professional license. Therefore, all health related licensees applying for the renewal of a license issued by the Department of State Board shall be required to complete at least two hours of Board-approved continuing education in child abuse recognition and reporting requirements as a condition of renewal (Act 31). This Child Abuse Recognition and Reporting CE Course has been approved by The Department of Human Services to fulfill Act 31 mandatory CE requirements for licensed healthcare professionals. 

PAIN MANAGEMENT, DRUG ADDICTION AND THE PRACTICE OF
PRESCRIBING AND DISPENSING OPIOIDS (2 CE)

This course is part of 5 series of lectures. The first two parts (1 CE each) will be required for license renewal. You can watch the videos first then follow the registration link under the YouTube video and proceed to the quiz. The other three videos will earn you CE credit but will not count towards the mandatory hours needed for pain management, identification of addiction or the practices of prescribing or dispensing opioids. Anyone who holds a current DEA registration or use another DEA number (as permitted by law) to prescribe controlled substances, needs 2 hours of CE in pain management, identification of addiction or the practice of prescribing or dispensing opioids in the two-year period preceding licensure renewal.

COURSE GOALS AND LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

ANESTHESIA & PAIN MANAGEMENT: DRUG ADDICTION & THE PRACTICE OF PRESCRIBING OPIOIDS
(PART I & II): 2 CE (MANDATORY FOR RENEWAL)

• Classification of pain
• Discussion on opioid crisis, identification of drug addiction and drug diversion
• Analyze the prescribing narcotics in dental or medical practices
• Identify when and why to prescribe opioid medications
• Identify how Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs (PDMP) can increase the quality of patient care
• Describe the operation of Pennsylvania’s PDMP
• Review prescriber roles and responsibilities, including when to query the PDMP
• Discuss third-party access to the PDMP and safeguards to protect the Program data
• Incorporate opioid prescribing tools and additional resources into practice
• Identify potential dispensing red flags
• Incorporate opioid dispensing tools and additional resources into practice
• Address the disease of addiction and Substance Use Disorders
• Explore screening and assessment tools
• Review intervention strategies
• Build skills to talk appropriately with patients
• Discuss evidence-based alternatives to opioid therapy for pain management, including non-opioid medications
