  • You may not have anything to eat or drink for eight (8) hours prior to the appointment.
  • No smoking at least 12 hours before surgery. Ideally, cut down or stop smoking as soon as possible prior tothe day of surgery.
  • Marijuana must be stopped at least two (2) weeks prior to surgery. In addition, it is critical for your health and well-being that our office staff and the doctors be told about any use of street drugs such as: cocaine, heroin, Ecstasy (E), methamphetamine (meth), crystal meth, designer drugs, etc. or any other recreational drugs before surgery. Please understand that this is not a value judgment about your lifestyle. It is a safety concern about your well-being during surgery and anesthesia.
  • A responsible adult driver must accompany the patient to the office, remain in the office during the procedure, so that we can give him/her the appropriate post op instructions and drive you home. We will not be able to start a procedure if your driver is not present in our waiting room. Once surgery is complete, the driver will sit in recovery with the patient until they are discharged. If your driver leaves while the patient is in surgery, the patient will be charged a $50 recovery fee.
  • A parent or legal guardian must accompany patients under 18 years of age at the time of the initial consult and the surgical procedure and will need to stay in our facility during the procedure.
  • A sedated or anesthetized patient must have their escort’s full attention on the way home. A small child SHOULD NOT be here on surgery day unless there is a second adult to supervise the child. The escort’s focus must be on helping to safely guide a possible unsteady patient into the house and to bed or sofa.
  • The patient should not drive a vehicle or operate any machinery for 24 hours following the anesthesia experience.
  • Please wear loose fitting, comfortable clothing with sleeves which can be rolled up past the elbow, and low-heeled shoes. Avoids boots or high shoes.

  • If you have an illness such as a cold, sore throat, stomach or bowel upset, please notify the office.
  • If you take routine oral medications, please inform us prior to your surgical date for instructions.
  • Please contact our office if you have any questions or concerns.
  • You will receive an email, text or phone call two days before your appointment to confirm. Please reply so that your appointment is considered confirmed.
  • If you take medications regularly, you should take them with small sips of water at the regular time.
  • You cannot take a taxi home without an escort. It is not adequately safe by our standards.
  • If you have a productive cough and active cold when oral surgery is to be performed, please call the office, as an appointment change may be necessary.
